Motivating children to read has been a challenge. In the modern business world, where so much interaction takes place digitally, over email and text-based messaging systems, reading is important, not only just in education. The ability to read for understanding and to communicate effectively is therefore important and needs to be taught at a young age.

In addition, reading for enjoyment offers a variety of advantages for children as they go to school and into adulthood. A study of more than 17,000 individuals, tracking their reading patterns and academic performance as kids, found that not only with their vocabulary and spelling but also in math, those students who read for pleasure did better. The connection was four times as good as that of students whose parents had degrees at the graduate level.

Here are some suggestions for parents to motivate their children to read and turn the unwillingness of a young reader into excitement.

  1. Encourage a wide variety of reading activities-

Make reading an important part of the lives of your kids. Let them read menus, film titles, roadside signs, weather forecasts, game guides, and other realistic daily stuff. Always try to make sure in their spare time that your kids have something to read.

  1. Using technology to boost self-esteem –

Technology is changing the way we all learn, and it can affect children and their reading positively. The self-esteem and trust of children is improved by introducing technologies such as tablet e-readers to the classroom. Technology also offers another outlet to children who have grown up in an environment of smartphones and pervasive computers that they are familiar with increasing and learning.

  1. Let them decide what they wanna read –

One of the best ways for a child to boost his success at school is to read for fun. But teaching a child to enjoy reading requires a lot more than just handing him a book. In raising life-long readers, letting children have options in their reading content goes a long way. Children who like what they read are more concerned about what they read, regardless of whether it’s a novel, a comic book, or a journal, and are able to maintain the data.

  1. Develop the oral language of children –

Offer him/her stories to read or have a tale read to them, depending on the language ability level of the child. When it is over, ask your child to recognize the story’s favorite part. This will encourage kids to have fun selecting words and to gain an interest in moving to the next page.

  1. Make use of creative apps and gadgets

It is possible to use your smartphone or tablet to install helpful reading apps. There children can have protected reading spaces without parents worrying about what they may find online. Parents are able to select various activities that their children can access, as well as for how long with the help of timer features.

  1. Take them to the local library –

Local libraries are a treasure hunt for young children, and story-time sessions and summer reading competitions are regularly held by them. It could be just the thing to deepen your child’s enjoyment of reading by being surrounded by other kids who love reading.

  1. Let them use e-readers –

E-readers can be customized to the particular needs of each person. E-readers are ideally suited to this kind of tailoring if you have a kid who wants larger fonts or fewer lines per page to boost their reading capacity. For students with learning disabilities, e-readers are also adaptive. They can also help level the playing field for children who learn differently.

In school, reading for enjoyment appears to give children an advantage because they are used to presenting new ideas and can process them faster and more efficiently than their non-reading peers. The doors to bringing the next generation back into reading were opened by e-readers. Simple access to a variety of subjects and stories will definitely ignite an interest in even an unwilling reader. And growing technology will provide better-targeted learning opportunities while growing self-esteem and trust.

Parents should do their part to help their children flourish in school. To ensure that he/she begins school with a solid foundation in language and literacy-related abilities and a desire to learn to read.

In the elementary years, children learn how to read from first to third grades, which is a dynamic process that is complicated for some and easy for others. Take care not to overemphasize the process of learning to read during these years, while encouraging your child to continue reading.
